In June 2016 The Health Bloggers Community hosted their first ever awards ceremony titled the ‘HBC Blog Awards’. The event was in collaboration with That Protein and sponsored by ourselves along with other great brands such as; Linwoods, Protein Haus and The Soil Association. The awards were a friendly and fun celebration of the fast-growing community of health bloggers which continues to grow and evolve each day.
Here at SuperFoodLx we have chosen to interview a few of the winners and finalists from the HBC Awards. Each interview provides a mini insight into each blogger but what SuperFoodLx liked the most about the interviews was learning about what makes a great health blog and each health blogger’s favourite health tips.
Today we will be interviewing histamine free health and lifestyle blogger Nathalie Gletiman from Nathalie’s Cuisine who was a finalist at the Health Blog Awards 2016. When you get the chance, reach out to them and follow, like and subscribe to their respective channels on social media as they are a great way to stay informed on the health community.
I’m Nathalie and I am 24 years old. I am originally from Germany, lived 2 years in England and then moved to Israel to do my bachelor in Business and Marketing. After working in an international PR Agency in Tel Aviv for 1 year, I decided to start my blog and share my recipes that are all histamine- and lactose free. What started as a passion turned now into my job:). In September I am launching my new website which will also have an online shop with some exciting products:).
What inspired you to start your blog?
In January 2014 I was diagnosed with histamine – and lactose intolerance. I was familiar with what a lactose intolerance is but I have never heard of a histamine intolerance. I was suffering for many months until my doctor found out what the reason for all these symptoms was. I suffered from dizziness, stomach cramps, palpitations, digestive problems, nausea and severe bloating. My allergy reached its peak when I just could not leave the house anymore. While I was relieved to have finally found out what was going on with me, my world was imploding. I did not understand what to eat and how to choose the right foods. I felt that there were no recipes available that allowed me to continue my healthy lifestyle without compromising the taste of my meals. So I started to creating my own!
One of the reasons why I got these intolerances is because I used to eat very one sided and not varied at all. My blog and recipes not only support people who do have the intolerance but gives everybody the opportunity to try new creations and have a diversified and healthy lifestyle. The recipes are easy to make and tailored for a busy lifestyle. With my clean eating habits I feel better today than I ever felt before!
What do you enjoy most about blogging?
What I enjoy most about blogging is the opportunity to share my real life with others and see their reaction. I am so touched about every email Ireceive and really take time to respond to each person thoroughly. The most joy for me is to see that I can help other and make a difference for people’s wellbeing.
Do you have a favourite blog post and if so what is it and why?
Wow this is a very difficult question. I put the same amount of effort into each post so its hard to say which one is my favourite. From the tips section I think the TravelHappy one is very useful for anybody and I use it a lot because I am traveling quite a bite between Germany, Israel and New York. I love a good snack so I love my Muesli Bars but I am also obsessed with savory dishes like my Bulgur Salad that is so colourful, rich and unusual in taste!
What plans do you have for the future of your blog?
For now my plan is to successfully launch my online shop and hope that people love it. Over time I would love to extend the online shop as well. It would be also incredible to make a recipe book and make some interesting and amazing collaborations. I actually try not to plan too much in advance because I want to listen to what people would love and take that into consideration when making any next steps. For now it has been working amazing and I can’t wait where this blog will take me!
If you had to choose one meal to eat everyday for one year, what would it be?
Since I believe in balance and variety that would probably not be a good idea haha. In terms of taste, I am a huge Porridge fan and make all kinds of different types. There is so much you can do with and I wouldn’t mind eating it everyday!
What do you do to relax and de stress?
I am a big yoga fan! I think this is the only time I get to shut down my brain, breath deeply and intensely feel my body. I practice 3-4 times a week and its incredible!
What is your least favourite health fad and why?
To be honest, I am not a big fan of health fads in general because they are extreme. Juicing and all kinds of trends might be interesting to try for a day or two but in general I believe it is about finding yourself in life and build a healthy connection to your body and no health fad will help you with that but rather a healthy and conscious lifestyle.
What is your favourite superfood?
I think Chia Seeds and hemp seeds are incredible! There are lots of superfoods I don’t eat because of my intolerances but these two are very much part of my diet. Chia seeds are amazing due to its health qualities but also because you can make so many delicious recipes with it like bread, chia seeds, smoothies… I always sprinkle some hemp seeds on my salad or muesli as it has a nutty taste to it and contains so much proteins. I am also a big fan of hemp protein powder. Its the perfect quick breakfast or pre-workout energy boost!
What is your most trusted natural remedy or keep healthy tip?
If you have a tip (recipe, natural treatment) for keeping yourself healthy
would you be able to provide one.
WATER! Water! Water! I drink 2-3 liters of water a day and it is essential to keep your body healthy. No need to go on a crazy detox diet. When you drink enough water your body is detoxing everyday on its own. It clears the skin and keeps your metabolism on track and healthy. It also really helps to keep the gut clean which is important especially for people with intolerances.
If you could offer one piece of advice (about anything) what would it be?
Anything you do, do it 100%. 100% of love, effort and commitment. If you do something that is not 100% its not worth doing it!
